SAGE Tanzania: The Great Migration & Ngorongoro Journey pairs the full 20.0-hour SAGE sedation and anesthesia curriculum with a carefully paced northern Tanzania safari timed for the seasonal movement of wildebeest and zebra through the northern Serengeti. The journey begins in Arusha, moves by scheduled bush flight to Kogatende for four nights close to the Mara River migration corridor, and concludes in the Ngorongoro Highlands with a full crater safari.

Day 3 - Great Migration Tracking & Mara River Corridors

Day 3 - Great Migration Tracking & Mara River Corridors image

Track Wildebeest Migration and Midday CME Block

activity icon

Early-morning migration tracking in the northern Serengeti

The day begins early, when the plains are cool and wildlife is most active. Guides use current sightings, herd direction, weather, and river conditions to choose the morning route, with the Mara River and surrounding migration corridors as the central focus. Depending on herd position, the drive may involve waiting near favored crossing areas, following large columns across the plains, or shifting attention to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and other resident species.
activity icon

Flexible access toward Mara River crossing areas

Flexible access toward Mara River crossing areas as wildlife dictates. Guides will prioritize current herd movement and safe, responsible viewing rather than a fixed route.
activity icon

Resident big-cat and plains-game viewing

Resident big-cat and plains-game viewing in the northern Serengeti, with opportunities to observe lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and other species.
activity icon

Three-hour midday SAGE academic block

Return to Ole Serai for lunch and a concentrated three-hour SAGE educational block. Sessions: 11:30 AM-12:30 PM - Navigating Sedation Regulations, Standards, and Scope of Practice; 12:40-1:40 PM - Novel Anesthetics and Analgesics; 1:50-2:50 PM - Adult M&M: Root Cause Analysis of Closed Claim Cases.
activity icon

Late-afternoon game drive timed to current conditions

The late afternoon is deliberately kept flexible so the group can respond to updated field information and return toward the best wildlife activity before sunset.

Day 4 - Mara River Watch, Predators & Northern Serengeti

Day 4 - Mara River Watch, Predators & Northern Serengeti image

Migration, Predators, and Flexible Safari Exploration

activity icon

Morning drive following migration and predator activity

The morning drive again follows field conditions: herds may be gathering near the river, dispersing through the plains, or moving along channels where lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and other predators take advantage of the concentration of prey.
activity icon

Three-hour midday SAGE academic block

Return to camp during the heat of the day for lunch, rest, and three CME hours. 11:30 AM-12:30 PM - Risk Management and Sedation Safety: Lessons Across Practice Settings; 12:40-1:40 PM - Sedation for Patients with Syndromes and Complex Comorbidities; 1:50-2:50 PM - Competency-Based Training for a Safe Sedation Practice.
activity icon

Late-afternoon game drive with flexible routing

In the late afternoon, safari vehicles head out again, potentially toward a different sector from the morning to broaden the wildlife experience. This repeated rhythm - dawn in the field, focused education at midday, then return to the landscape - is the defining structure of the Kogatende chapter.

Final Migration Safari and CME in Kogatende

activity icon

Morning game drive focused on herd and predator movement

The morning provides another chance to follow the migration at first light, when columns of wildebeest and zebra can transform the scale of the plains and predator activity is often at its most compelling. Rather than repeat a fixed circuit, the guide team selects the day's route according to the most recent wildlife information.
activity icon

Midday SAGE academic block

Return to camp for brunch or lunch and the longest midday academic block of the safari chapter, including the first 1.5-hour Challenging Cases session. 11:00 AM-12:00 PM - Oral Sedation for Pediatric Patients: Safe and Effective Medication Strategies; 12:10-1:40 PM - Challenging Cases: An Interactive Discourse on Real-World Challenges; 1:50-2:50 PM - Sedation Strategies for Emergent Procedures.
activity icon

Late-afternoon / sunset safari

After a short break, head back into the field for a final Kogatende afternoon and sunset. The evening at camp offers time to reflect on the wildlife chapter before the journey turns south toward the Ngorongoro Highlands the following day.
